Cancer statistics

Different varieties of cancer, with more than 8 million deaths just in 2012, are among the main death causes of human being. More than 14 million cases were diagnosed world wide in 2012 and the number of newly diagnosed cases is anticipated to rise by 70% by 2030, if the treatment status is not improved. Merely in the EU, more than 2.6 million individuals were diagnosed with cancer and more than 1.2 million lost their life in 2012. Sweden stands for 55000 of the newly diagnosed cases. The economic burden of cancer related health cares is enormous. The EU expenditure upon cancer is more than 124 billion Euros every year which is equivalent to approximately 4% of its total health care expenses. Cancer costs Sweden 2.7 billion Euros per year which corresponds to 1% of its gross domestic products.
